Has plugin software changed the way you make music, and Drum & Bass in general, over your career, and is it for the better? How does Roland feel about all this cutting edge software?

I have been using plug ins for a long time now, I switched over to audio from hardware a long time ago, even before software instruments were born. The fact that all your effects are now saved with the song most people these days take for granted, but it was always a major leap forward in my mind. The effects available these days are way better and more innovative than anything that was around when I started, although theres still a bit of magic there when you switch something old and dusty on ...

What projects have you used Camel Audio software on?

I use CamelPhat on anything that needs to sound bigger! Without wanting to blow ya horn too much, most tracks end up with it somewhere in the chain …

What do you like most about CamelSpace and CamelPhat?

Apart from them being good at giving movement to just about anything … they don’t crash my computer and they look nice on the screen!

Any favourite CamelSpace or CamelPhat techniques or tips you'd like to share with fellow PhatSpace users?

Take one sound, put it on three tracks add a CamelPhat on each track with a different preset then use the filters to carve out a different frequency range for each part of the sound ... then just use track volume to get the balance right and morph between them ...

What plugins would you like to see coming from plugin developers like Camel Audio in the future, and how would you like to see music technology evolve?

I’d like a plug in sampler I could sing filter sweeps and pitchbends to and it would understand what I meant.

What are your plans for the future, musically and out of the studio?

I want to work with all the artists I respect and release the collaborations on my label Dom & Roland Productions. I may start to try my hand at some different musical styles soon, starting with break-beat.

If I’m not in the studio or DJ'ing somewhere on this crazy planet, I plan to be out in the fresh air on top of a mountain somewhere planning the craziest route down on my mountain bike.
